Professor Jiří Zelenka Award for excellent students' final theses.
Prof. Ing. Jiří Zelenka, DrSc. (1926–2001) belongs to important personalities of the Technical University in Liberec, Czech education and science and research in general. He started working in Liberec in 1968 as an associate professor at the then Department of Electrical Engineering. In 1989, he was elected Vice-Rector for Science and Research and International Relations at the University of Liberec.
He was one of the founders of the Faculty of Mechatronics and Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies at TUL, in 1995 he was appointed its first dean and headed the faculty for four months before the FM Academic Senate was elected and established. Professor Zelenka worked for many decades in the field of development of piezoelectric crystal units and had a great deal of credit for the fact that the direction of modeling piezoelectric elements began to grow in Liberec. In 2003, TUL Rector Vojtěch Konopa awarded him an honorary silver medal in memoriam.
